Bogotá Concert
Hello friends, this is Mike writing from Rafael Nuñez International Airport, waiting for a flight to Bogotá.
I'm lucky enough to be traveling Colombia for the first two weeks of July with a solo show planned at La Dacha in Bogotá. All NYC Aesop's shows are listed at the bottom of this post with ticket links available on our website.
Latin American music is at the very heart of my work as a composer and musician. Both my teachers in college and in grad school were from South America. Pablo was a warm hearted man who would talk glowingly about his “home in paradise” back in Brazil. João was a stern and intense teacher who always demanded excellence.
Cumbia, salsa, reggaeton, and vallenato were ubiquitous growing up. Blasting from cars and delis in the working class Long Island towns where my Dad would drive us around.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore la cultural y la musicá de Colombia. And the way people tolerate my terrible Spanish. I hope to bring some knowledge and music back to share with all of you.
If you have time, check out my new friend José Vitola. He helped me organize this show on Saturday and I hope you will all listen to his beautiful new album. He's a great songwriter and it's worth a listen.
Last note, we are looking for volunteers to help with distribution of our physical newsletter. Join our volunteer WhatsApp and introduce yourself if you are interested!
